Fracture Me

Fracture MeAuthor: Tahereh Mafi

Pages: 62

Goodreads Synopsis: In this electrifying sixty-page companion novella to the New York Times bestselling Shatter Me series, discover the fate of the Omega Point rebels as they go up against The Reestablishment. Set during and soon after the final moments of Unravel Me, Fracture Me is told from Adam’s perspective.

As Omega Point prepares to launch an all-out assault on The Reestablishment soldiers stationed in Sector 45, Adam’s focus couldn’t be further from the upcoming battle. He’s reeling from his breakup with Juliette, scared for his best friend’s life, and as concerned as ever for his brother James’s safety. And just as Adam begins to wonder if this life is really for him, the alarms sound. It’s time for war.

On the battlefield, it seems like the odds are in their favor—but taking down Warner, Adam’s newly discovered half brother, won’t be that easy. The Reestablishment can’t tolerate a rebellion, and they’ll do anything to crush the resistance . . . including killing everyone Adam has ever cared about.

Fracture Me sets the stage for Ignite Me, the explosive finale in Tahereh Mafi’s epic dystopian series. It’s a novella not to be missed by fans who crave action-packed stories with tantalizing romance like Divergent by Veronica Roth, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and Legend by Marie Lu.

Review: Let me start by saying I do not like Adam and I chose not  to read this novella the first time I read the Shatter Me Series but I decided I had to finish this novella to complete the series. Well, let’s just say my views on Adam did not change while reading this novella. He is just an all around jerk and I really did not like the way he treated the people in his life (Juliet, Kenji, James, etc…). I would just like to add a quote that Adam was thinking about Juliet.

If it were up to me, she’d be back on base with James where I know she’d be safe, but she wouldn’t listen to me even if I asked her to. Kenji and Castle were always blowing smoke up her ass when they shouldn’t, and honestly? It’s dangerous. It’s not good to make her think she can do this kind of thing when really, it’ll probably get her killed. She is not a soldier; she doesn’t know how to fight; and she has no idea how to use her powers, not really, which makes things even worse. It’s basically like giving a toddler a stick a dynamite and telling him to walk into a fire.”

Ughhhh, this quote made me fume!!!! I HATE Adam. It really sucks considering that the rest of the series is FANTASTIC- I totally recommend it to everyone!

Is there anyone out there who likes Adam?

Have you read Fracture Me? Did you like it?

Review: This book was a whole bundle of confusion. Firstly, I had a hard time following the time changes between Annie and Fia’s point of views. I had no emotional connection to the characters which is important for a good story and I did not feel for them and didn’t really care what happened to them. I also found Fia and Annie to be too similar to be two different characters. I don’t know if anyone else does this but I usually imagine what the characters look and sound like and with Annie and Fia they looked and sounded the same. I often had to go back to the beginning of the chapter to see whose point of view I was currently reading. The ending was the worst part, it had no conclusion and I feel like there were still things that needed to be resolved. Maybe Kiersten White will write another book in the series, I don’t know and I really don’t care.

Recommendation: I personally did not like this book but that doesn’t mean you won’t. If you enjoyed Mind Games you might enjoy Perfect Lies and even if you don’t it is really short so it doesn’t take too long.

Quarantine: The Loners

6992255_f260Author: Lex Thomas

Pages: 404

Goodreads Synopsis: It was just another ordinary day at McKinley High—until a massive explosion devastated the school. When loner David Thorpe tried to help his English teacher to safety, the teacher convulsed and died right in front of him. And that was just the beginning.

A year later, McKinley has descended into chaos. All the students are infected with a virus that makes them deadly to adults. The school is under military quarantine. The teachers are gone. Violent gangs have formed based on high school social cliques. Without a gang, you’re as good as dead. And David has no gang. It’s just him and his little brother, Will, against the whole school.

In this frighteningly dark and captivating novel, Lex Thomas locks readers inside a school where kids don’t fight to be popular, they fight to stay alive.

Review: This book was outright BORING. I loved the premise of the book but the writing was awful and the characters were not likable. It was stereotypical, the football players (or varsity) were a**holes, the cheerleaders (or the pretty ones) were bitches, the sluts were whores. As a high school student, I was expecting to relate to some of the characters but none of them were even remotely realistic.  I wanted this book to be fast-paced  but it was slow and I had to force myself to finish it. It was easy to put down and I got distracted really easily. I don’t really know what else to say, this book was NOT good.

Recommendation: I really don’t think this is a good book and I don’t think it is worth reading.
