I am truly sorry I haven’t posted anything in the longest time but I am back now with what I am currently reading.

For school I am reading Native Son by Richard WrightNative SonIt is very good but I still think I prefer To Kill A Mockingbird a little bit more.

I don’t know what I am going to pick up next for personal reading. I just finished Throne of Glass and Crown of Midnight (Both rereads) and I thoroughly enjoyed both of them again.

Throne of Glass series

If you have any recommendations they would be much appreciated.

The Winner's CurseAuthor: Marie Rutkoski

Pages: 368

Goodreads Synopsis: Winning what you want may cost you everything you love

As a general’s daughter in a vast empire that revels in war and enslaves those it conquers, seventeen-year-old Kestrel has two choices: she can join the military or get married. But Kestrel has other intentions.

One day, she is startled to find a kindred spirit in a young slave up for auction. Arin’s eyes seem to defy everything and everyone. Following her instinct, Kestrel buys him—with unexpected consequences. It’s not long before she has to hide her growing love for Arin.

But he, too, has a secret, and Kestrel quickly learns that the price she paid for a fellow human is much higher than she ever could have imagined.

Set in a richly imagined new world, The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski is a story of deadly games where everything is at stake, and the gamble is whether you will keep your head or lose your heart

Rating: ***** (5 stars)

Review: Okay, I admit  I bought this book for its cover but to be honest I liked the story better than the cover.

This book had an amazing and interesting premise that made for a fabulous book. I really liked both the main characters, Kestrel and Arin. Kestrel is a Valorian (ruling class) who is a very independent and strong willed girl. I really enjoyed reading about her and respected her as a female character. Arin (yes please), is a slave to Kestrel and he has a really interesting story.

While reading this book I got an ancient Rome vibe that was awesome! I love ancient Rome. Anyway, I really liked the world in  the story but I wish there was a bit more, but I figure that there will be more in the following books. I would also like to know more of the history of the world.

Overall, this was a very good book and I recommend it to fantasy and/or historical fiction fans.

Currently Reading #8

Sorry it has been so long since I have done a “Currently Reading.” I am think about making it a weekly thing where once a week I will post what I am currently reading.

Anyway, Here is  what I am currently reading:

AllegiantI started reading Allegiant awhile ago but I have been spoiled and don’t really feel like reading. I am only about 360 pages in and have no drive to continue. I just have to push through and finish it.

The Winner's CurseCan we just admire this cover for a few seconds. It is gorgeous.

I just started The Winner’s Curse today. I am only about 60 pages in but so far it has been pretty good. It seems to have pretty good ratings on Goodreads so I  hope I end up loving it.

To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a MockingbirdAuthor: Harper Lee

Pages: 324

Goodreads Synopsis:

“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view .. until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”

Tomboy Scout Finch comes of age in a small Alabama town during a crisis in 1935. She admires her father Atticus, how he deals with issues of racism, injustice, intolerance and bigotry, his courage and his love.

Rating: ***** (5 stars)!

Review: For a awhile there I thought I was the only human in the world (well maybe not the world but at least the United States) who had never read To Kill a Mockingbird.

Anyway, I thought To Kill a Mockingbird was an amazing book! I definitely think it is in my top ten books EVER. The story was fantastic; I can see now why this book has been raved about for many years. The characters were written beautifully and so realistically (though I don’t really know, I wasn’t around in the 1930’s). The story was interesting throughout the whole book, and the themes were really powerful  and thought-provoking. I think it was ingenious for Harper Lee to have Scout narrate the story, it added so much to the story. I don’t know what else to say except that this book was awesome and everybody who hasn’t read this book should read it (NOW) and everybody who has read it, read it again.

Princesses Behaving Badly

Princesses Behaving BadlyAuthor: Linda Rodriguez McRobbie

Pages: 288

Goodreads Synopsis: You think you know her story. You’ve read the Brothers Grimm, you’ve watched the Disney cartoons, you cheered as these virtuous women lived happily ever after. But the lives of real princesses couldn’t be more different. Sure, many were graceful and benevolent leaders—but just as many were ruthless in their quest for power, and all of them had skeletons rattling in their royal closets. Princess Stephanie von Hohenlohe was a Nazi spy. Empress Elizabeth of the Austro-Hungarian empire slept wearing a mask of raw veal. Princess Olga of Kiev murdered thousands of men, and Princess Rani Lakshmibai waged war on the battlefield, charging into combat with her toddler son strapped to her back. Princesses Behaving Badly offers minibiographies of all these princesses and dozens more. It’s a fascinating read for history buffs, feminists, and anyone seeking a different kind of bedtime story

Rating: **** (4 stars)

Review: This book was awesome. I absolutely love to read about strong women. Many, okay all, of these women were kick-ass. The one negative thing about this book is how short some of the stories were, I often felt that some of the stories were rushed/ too short, especially the more interesting women. With most of the Princesses I wouldn’t have minded reading a whole novel on, they (and their myths) were all so interesting. Overall this is a very good book and I think every little girl (or big girl or even guys) should read this book.
