She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real, she’s prone to disappearing on mysterious “errands”, she speaks many languages – not all of them human – and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she’s about to find out.

When beautiful, haunted Akiva fixes fiery eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

Review: Even though this book seems to have taken me an eternity to read, I really liked it and let me tell you, I usually hate books with angels in them, I don’t know why, I just don’t like them (I blame it on the Fallen series).

I loved the characters, especially Karou, she is a very unique character. Oh, and can we please talk about how cool the chimera are? Like now, are they not the coolest thing you have ever read about? The story was absolutely beautifully written and so incredibly unique.  I felt like I was there watching the events unfold and just wanting to scream. All the pain, all the pain. My heart is broken in a million pieces. The end, why Laini Taylor why? This book made me really think about what defines good or bad and whether those definitions can ever be wrong.

I have no freaking clue what is going to happen in the sequel, Days of Blood and Starlight, but I am very excited/anxious to read it. I hope it makes everything better.

Recommendation: If you like young adult fantasy with angels, romance, a crazy ending, with a side of mega heartbreak this book is for you. But really everybody who likes any kind of fantasy or paranormal will potentially/ hopefully like this book. I highly, highly recommend this book.
